Shoppers in Enniskillen have been closely following the news that national retailer Poundland has been sold to investment firm Gordon Brothers. The move comes as part of a major management-led turnaround plan to address recent trading challenges across the chain’s UK and Ireland operations.

While much speculation has surrounded the potential for store closures and job losses, Poundland has so far not made any specific announcements about individual stores, including its Enniskillen branch.

Under the terms of the agreement, Gordon Brothers has acquired Poundland from its former parent company Pepco Group, and will provide up to £80 million in funding to support the company’s restructuring efforts. Despite recent difficulties in trading, the company confirmed that its management team, led by CEO Barry Williams, remains in place to oversee the restructuring process and future growth plans.

Poundland operates approximately 800 stores across the UK and Ireland, employing around 16,000 people and serving over 20 million customers annually. In Enniskillen, the store remains a regular fixture on the high street, offering groceries, household items, clothing, and general merchandise at the affordable prices the brand has become known for.

In an official statement, CEO Barry Williams commented:

“Poundland is a UK and Ireland retailer of real significance, serving 20 million customers each year with a much-loved brand. Although recent trading has been challenging, we have built a turnaround plan with a simplified and more focused Poundland at its heart, as we aim to deliver the amazing value our customers expect.”

Mark Newton-Jones of Gordon Brothers added:

“We believe Poundland is an essential business to UK consumers and plays an important role on the High Street.”

The sale follows Pepco Group’s earlier announcement of plans to concentrate its business under the Pepco brand, leading to the sale of Poundland to allow for more focused investment in its remaining operations.

For now, Enniskillen shoppers will see no immediate changes at the local Poundland store, with more information on the company’s future plans expected to be released in the coming months.

EnniskillenMix.com will continue to follow any developments and provide updates should further details become available regarding the Enniskillen store.
