Monday, 6th October 2025 – Sky customers across the UK, including in County Fermanagh, are reporting ongoing issues with their Sky Q viewing cards. According to multiple online forums, including Sky’s own Help Community and sites such as DownDetector, the problem appears to have started on Sunday, 5th October and has continued into today.

Social media and community forums have been flooded with users all reporting the same error message repeatedly appearing on their screens:

“Please ensure the correct viewing card is inserted with the chip facing up.”

Many customers are saying that the issue causes their service to drop in and out multiple times an hour — with some reporting as many as 10 interruptions in a single hour. The widespread nature of the problem suggests this could be a technical issue affecting Sky’s systems, rather than isolated user error or faulty hardware.

Despite following standard troubleshooting steps, including turning the box off and on or completing a full reboot, users report the issue remains unresolved.

Sky’s recommended full reboot procedure:

  1. Press standby on your Sky Q remote.
  2. Switch off or unplug your Sky Q box at the mains.
  3. Ensure all cables are securely connected and that no lights are showing on the box.
  4. Plug it back in and switch on.
  5. Wait for the on-screen instructions to disappear, then press Home on your Sky Q remote.

Unfortunately, even these steps have not worked for many affected customers.

Sky has acknowledged the issue and confirmed that their technical team is currently working on a fix. No estimated time for resolution has been given as yet.
