Enniskillen Library will close to the public later this month as work prepares to get underway on the town’s new library development.
Libraries NI has confirmed that the existing library at Halls Lane will close from Monday 21st September 2026, with Saturday 19th September being its final day of opening.
All events and activities already planned for Saturday 19th September are expected to go ahead as scheduled.
The closure comes after Libraries NI confirmed that a contractor has now been appointed for the redevelopment, allowing work on the new Enniskillen Library to move to its next stage.
Temporary library service planned
The closure will temporarily affect the range of services currently available from the Halls Lane building, including book borrowing, public computers and Wi-Fi, printing and scanning facilities, study space and the library’s regular programme of events and activities.
A temporary library service is planned while the redevelopment takes place, although Libraries NI’s current customer notice does not yet provide details of where or when that temporary facility will operate.
Libraries NI is encouraging customers to keep an eye on its website and social media channels for the latest information regarding the closure and library services during the redevelopment.
Major redevelopment moves forward
The September closure represents another significant step forward for the long-awaited redevelopment of Enniskillen Library.
As previously reported by Enniskillen Mix, plans will see the existing library replaced with a new modern facility designed to serve Enniskillen and the wider Fermanagh community.
Libraries NI described the closure as an important stage in its plans to deliver the new library.
For regular users, the important dates for now are Saturday 19th September, when the existing library opens for the final time, and Monday 21st September, when the building officially closes to the public.
