What started as a way of saying thank you to local customers has grown into a popular Bank Holiday weekend event in Enniskillen, with Charlie’s Bar getting ready to welcome Summerfest back for another year.

Taking place on Sunday 30 August, this year’s Summerfest will feature 12 hours of live music, dancing, food and entertainment, with the event remaining completely free to attend.

How Summerfest began

Summerfest was originally created as a way for Charlie’s Bar to give something back to its customers while also providing a platform for the musical talent found across Fermanagh.

“I wanted to run an event to say thank you to our local customers for their support over the years,” the organiser explained. “I also wanted the event to be a celebration of the local talent we have here in Fermanagh and to create a bit of a buzz in the town on the Bank Holiday weekend.”

The first Summerfest was a much smaller affair, centred around the alleyway and Main Bar, with a traditional music session, two other acts and line dancing from Modern Country Moves.

It has since grown to feature eight performances across the day, including three full bands.

And its audience has grown too. While the first event primarily attracted local people, last year’s Summerfest welcomed visitors from Galway, Wexford and England, as well as a couple from Australia and a family visiting from the United States.

One thing hasn’t changed, though: Summerfest remains free to attend.

12 hours of music and entertainment

This year’s event will have live music running from 1pm until 1am, with Paddy Treacy getting the day underway in the alleyway.

Visitors can expect a mixture of Trad, Folk and Irish Country Music alongside plenty of dancing, including line dancing, jiving and Irish dancing.

TullyMill will be providing the BBQ, Boatyard will have samples available, and face painters have been added for children this year.

The traditional music session will also be open to performers and musicians of all abilities.

Showcasing local talent remains a big part of Summerfest.

“It is incredibly important to me that Summerfest celebrates the rich talent we have on our doorstep,” the organiser said.

The event is also family-friendly and dog-friendly, with the early afternoon entertainment giving families the chance to enjoy a few hours of music before heading home with the kids.

Bringing a Bank Holiday buzz to Enniskillen

Behind the scenes, months of preparation go into putting Summerfest together, with Charlie’s Bar crediting both the musicians and its staff for helping make the event a success each year.

Fermanagh Comhaltas has partnered with Summerfest since its first year, while Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has also come on board as a sponsor for 2026.

Perhaps one story from last year’s event sums up just how much Summerfest has grown.

During The Porter Belly’s performance, a member of staff sent a photograph of the packed alleyway to a friend.

Their response?

“What concert are you at?”

Summerfest takes place at Charlie’s Bar, Enniskillen, on Sunday 30 August, with entertainment running from 1pm until 1am.

And now there’s just one thing left to hope for — some Bank Holiday sunshine.
