Motorists in Enniskillen are being advised of upcoming disruption as resurfacing works are scheduled to take place along Derrychara Road, with lane closures and overnight road closures planned.

Resurfacing works are set to get underway on Derrychara Road in Enniskillen next week, following confirmation from the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) Roads.

The improvements, which have been sought by local residents for several years, will involve a series of traffic restrictions throughout November.

When will the road closures take place?

According to information shared by local councillors following discussions with DfI Roads, the following arrangements are planned:

  • Monday 9 – Tuesday 17 November: An initial lane closure will operate along Derrychara Road.
  • Tuesday 17 – Wednesday 18 November: Overnight road closures are planned to allow resurfacing work to take place.

Motorists travelling through the area, including those using the nearby Tesco junction, should be prepared for possible delays while the work is carried out.

Exact closure times and diversion arrangements have not yet been confirmed in the information published by local representatives.

Long-awaited improvements for residents

Councillor Aaron Elliott welcomed confirmation of the resurfacing programme, explaining that the condition of Derrychara Road was among the first issues he raised with DfI after becoming a councillor.

He also said he had been raising the matter alongside Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA Deborah Erskine since 2022.

Acknowledging the potential disruption, Councillor Elliott said efforts would continue to minimise the inconvenience caused to motorists and residents.

He described the resurfacing as long overdue, highlighting the length of time local people had been calling for improvements.

Meanwhile, Ulster Unionist Party Councillor Roy Crawford also welcomed the planned works, following discussions with DfI Roads.

Councillor Crawford highlighted resurfacing improvements for Derrychara Drive and the Tesco junction, describing the announcement as positive progress for the local community.

Further improvements being considered

There could also be additional road improvements in the Derrychara area in the future.

Councillor Elliott confirmed that he had raised concerns about the condition of Derrychara Drive towards Algeo Drive.

According to the councillor, DfI Roads has indicated that it is looking to include this section in a future works programme.

However, no confirmed timetable has been announced for those additional improvements.

Motorists advised to plan ahead

With the first lane closure scheduled for Monday 9 November, motorists travelling through Derrychara Road are encouraged to allow additional time for their journeys.

The overnight closures planned for 17 and 18 November may also affect residents and motorists using the road during the evening and nighttime hours.

Further information about exact closure times, traffic management and any diversion arrangements is expected to be important as the works approach.

Enniskillen Mix will continue to follow developments and share further updates when available.
