Primark has responded to Enniskillen Mix after the retailer’s name repeatedly appeared in discussions about what local shoppers would like to see come to Enniskillen.
If anyone at Primark was wondering whether there might be some demand for a store in Enniskillen, our Facebook comments over the past few days might provide a clue.
We’ve recently been covering the proposed relocation of Marks & Spencer from Erneside Shopping Centre to a new Foodhall at Lakelands Retail Park.
The plans have generated plenty of discussion, particularly after Tesco joined the owners of Erneside in objecting to the proposed development.
But among all the discussion about M&S, Erneside and the future of shopping in Enniskillen, another retailer’s name kept appearing.
Primark.
Primark proves popular with local shoppers
After our original article about Tesco’s objection, a number of readers suggested that if M&S did leave Erneside, the vacant unit could provide an opportunity to bring a new retailer to the town.
Primark was repeatedly suggested.
We subsequently asked readers directly what they would like to see replace M&S at Erneside if the move goes ahead.
Once again, Primark proved one of the most popular suggestions.
Other retailers mentioned included TK Maxx, H&M, Zara, Matalan and Yours Clothing, while some readers said they would prefer M&S to retain its clothing and home offering at Erneside.
There were also calls for more restaurants and leisure facilities in Enniskillen, including bowling and other activities for families and young people.
But there was no escaping the number of people asking for one particular retailer.
So we decided to ask Primark what they thought.
We asked Primark about Enniskillen
Enniskillen Mix contacted Primark and explained that the retailer had repeatedly been mentioned by local shoppers during our recent discussions.
We asked whether Primark currently had any plans to open in Enniskillen, or whether the town was somewhere the company might consider as part of its future expansion.
And while there’s no announcement of an Enniskillen Primark just yet, the company was pleased to hear about the local interest.
A Primark spokesperson told Enniskillen Mix:
“We love to hear that people would like to have a Primark store near them. As a growing business, we’re always looking for new opportunities for store locations, however we can’t comment on speculation about where we might open next.”
Is Primark coming to Enniskillen?
The short answer is: we don’t know.
Primark has not announced plans for an Enniskillen store, and its response should not be taken as confirmation that the company is currently considering a location in the town.
However, we thought that after seeing Primark mentioned so many times by our readers, it was worth going directly to the company and asking the question.
Unfortunately, we can’t tell you that Primark is coming to Enniskillen.
But we can tell you one thing…
Primark now knows that quite a few people around here would like one.
