Many locals may have noticed that two of Fermanagh’s most popular walking areas remain closed to the public due to ongoing access and safety issues.
Ely Lodge Forest
As of Wednesday, 7th May 2025, Ely Lodge Forest remains inaccessible to the public after a locked gate was installed at the entrance by a third party. It’s understood that the issue is now part of a legal dispute between the landowner and The Forest Service.
A spokesperson from Fermanagh and Omagh District Council confirmed that while they are working with Forest Service to help resolve the situation, the council has no direct control or authority over the land.
Due to the legal nature of the dispute, no further details are available at this time. EnniskillenMix has not yet contacted the landowner or Forest Service but remains open to publishing updates from either party should they wish to comment.
Cliffs of Magho Walking Trails
It is also understood that parts of the Cliffs of Magho walking trail have been closed due to ongoing safety concerns, with some sections expected to remain closed for the rest of 2025.
While information remains limited, it appears that:
- The walking trail near the Cliffs of Magho has been most affected and likely remains closed.
- The main Cliffs of Magho viewpoint may still be open to the public, but access to trails from that point is restricted.
Because repair and maintenance work is ongoing, different sections of the trail may close at different times throughout the year.
